When Is the Best Time for a Maternity Photoshoot? A Guide for Mums-to-Be in Doha

Your pregnancy is a short and special chapter, and many mums tell me afterwards that they’re so glad they captured it. The question I hear most often is: when is the best time to do maternity photos?

Here’s the simple answer, plus everything you need to plan a relaxed, beautiful session in Doha.

The short answer: between 30 and 34 weeks

The ideal time for a maternity photoshoot is between 30 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.

At this stage:

  • your bump is beautifully rounded and clearly shows in photos
  • you can usually still move, stand and pose comfortably
  • there’s still a little time before your due date, so the session never feels rushed

Expecting twins or an early delivery?

If you’re expecting twins, or your doctor has advised that your baby may arrive early, plan your maternity session a little earlier, around 28 to 30 weeks. Your bump will already be lovely, and you’ll be more comfortable during the session.

Every pregnancy is different, so please always follow your doctor’s advice first. We can adjust the date to suit you.

When should you book?

The best time to book is during your second trimester. Booking early means:

  • your preferred date is reserved in that 30–34 week window
  • we have time to plan your gowns, colours and the style of your session
  • there’s no last-minute stress in the final weeks

What to wear: gowns are provided

You don’t need to buy anything special. I offer a collection of luxury maternity gowns in a variety of styles, colours and sizes, designed to help you look elegant and feel confident.

You’re also very welcome to bring your own outfits, and I’ll guide you on what photographs best.

A few tips:

  • bring nude or seamless undergarments for easy gown changes
  • think about whether you’d like a light, airy look or a dramatic, dark backdrop, and we’ll plan the gowns around it
  • professional makeup is available at an additional charge, if you’d like a polished, camera-ready look

Can my husband and children join?

Yes, of course. Partners and children are welcome to join, and these are often some of the most meaningful photos of the session: a big sister holding a sign, a gentle hand on the bump, or a quiet moment between parents-to-be.

How a maternity session works

  • Length: most maternity sessions take around 1 to 2 hours, depending on outfit changes and the type of session.
  • Location: sessions can be done in the studio or at an outdoor location, depending on your preferred style and package, and home service is also available in Doha.
  • Posing: you don’t need any experience. I guide you through flattering, natural poses so you feel comfortable and confident throughout.
  • Breaks: we go at your pace, with time to rest, sit and have a drink of water.
  • Your photos: your professionally edited gallery is delivered within two weeks after your session.

As a female photographer with over 5 years of experience, I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable from the moment we start.

How to prepare

  • Rest well the day before and stay hydrated
  • prepare nude or seamless innerwear for gown changes
  • bring any meaningful item you’d like included, such as a scan photo, baby shoes or a name sign
