Somewhere between six and ten months, something magical happens: your baby sits up on their own. Suddenly they’re looking around, reaching for everything, giggling at the smallest things and showing a personality all their own. A sitter session is a photoshoot designed to capture exactly this stage.
What is a sitter session?
A sitter session, also called a baby milestone photoshoot, is planned for when your baby can sit up steadily without help, usually between 6 and 10 months.
It sits between your newborn photos and your baby’s first-birthday cake smash. Many parents book all three to tell the full story of their baby’s first year.
Not to be confused with a babysitter! In photography, a “sitter” simply means a baby who has just learned to sit.
Why is this stage so special?
At newborn age, babies are sleepy and curled up. By the first birthday, many are pulling themselves up and on the move. The sitter stage is the in-between moment when your baby is:
- sitting confidently, so we can capture beautiful upright portraits
- full of expression: big smiles, belly laughs and curious looks
- discovering the world: reaching for props, grabbing their toes, babbling away
- still small enough to fit into the sweetest setups, like baskets, bowls and tiny chairs

Baby milestones you can capture
Every baby develops at their own pace, so we photograph whatever stage your little one is at. Popular milestone moments include:
- sitting up unassisted, the classic sitter pose
- first teeth peeking through a big smile
- giggles and laughs (often the easiest part!)
- reaching, grabbing and exploring props
- getting ready to crawl or rolling onto the tummy
- your baby’s favourite toy, blanket or outfit
How a sitter session works
- Timing: we plan the session around your baby’s naps and feeds, so they’re happy and rested.
- Setups and props: themed setups and props are provided, and you’re welcome to bring a special outfit.
- Parents welcome: we can include a few photos of you with your baby.
- Duration: 1 to 2 hours, with plenty of breaks for snacks, feeds and cuddles.
- Location: sessions can be done in the studio or at an outdoor location, depending on your preferred style and package, and home service is also available in Doha.
- Your photos: your professionally edited gallery is delivered within two weeks after the session.

When should you book?
Get in touch when your baby is around 5–6 months old. That way we can plan a date for when they’re sitting confidently. Some babies sit steadily at 6 months, others closer to 8 or 9, and that’s completely fine. We simply choose the right moment for your baby.
How to prepare your baby
- Schedule around a good nap, so your baby arrives happy and rested
- Bring a feed or a favourite snack (if your baby has started solids)
- Pack a favourite toy to help with smiles
- Choose simple, comfortable outfits: soft knits and neutral colours photograph beautifully
- Don’t worry about tears or wriggles. We take it slowly and go at your baby’s pace
